with Artist, Bobby Clark
Today on the show I am chatting with the Scottish born, Melbourne based Artist, Bobby Clark. If you haven’t heard of Bobby, she is a Melbourne treasure, known for her distinctive and iconic style, exploring symmetry and balance. I have followed and fawned on Bobby’s instagram for a while now, so I was thrilled when she agreed to come and chat with me for the podcast.
Bobby comes from an Artistic family, but was told from a young age that art was a hobby rather than a career. Though she herself didn’t see it that way and poured everything she had into her work, turning the dream of being a working artist into reality.
Something else that Bobby had always dreamed of was being a Mother. Unfortunately she experienced an ectopic pregnancy loss in the process of trying to conceive, but that was shortly followed by a successful pregnancy with now toddler, James fulfilling her long standing dream to be a mother.
“More to the point, I grew a penis inside of me… what the heck? It’s madness! What came first? The chicken or the egg?“
Bobby and I discuss how Motherhood changed the way she views her art and success, flexibility, and investing time and money into building the business in a way that helps her to actually find the time to paint – which had become difficult once James arrived.
We discuss the way we can use past issues and experiences to become a much more mature version of ourselves and how Motherhood has given her the drive to do the inner & outer self-work she needed.
This episode is FULL of laughs, it’s a really warm and fun one. Bobby and I clicked right away and that always makes for a fruitful and fun conversation. You’ll hear it in my voice, but it’s worth noting she is bloody funny. Which reminds me, I should pop a swearing warning here, perhaps best not to listen with the kids around, unless this doesn’t bother you too much.
I hope you love it as much as I do.
